The unique experiences of healthcare trainees shape how they care for patients, collaborate with colleagues and grow as professionals. Journeys, the College of Medicine’s student-run antibias newsletter, provides a place for those stories to be shared, celebrated and appreciated.
Why Journeys Matters
Healthcare is strengthened when people are willing to listen to one another’s experiences. Dedicated to fostering a respectful and inclusive environment, Journeys creates opportunities for reflection, dialogue and learning by bringing together stories that represent a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives, encouraging fairness, cultural understanding and thoughtful engagement in healthcare. The newsletter reflects the belief that hearing many voices strengthens communities and ultimately improves patient care.
Who Can Participate?
There are many ways to become involved with Journeys. Contributions from healthcare students and trainees who wish to share their experiences, perspectives and creative work are welcomed in a range of formats:
- Personal narratives
- Essays and reflections
- Poetry
- Artwork
- Photography
- Podcasts
- Videos
- Book reviews
- Interviews
- Other creative works
Students who would like a larger role may also volunteer as associate editors. Contact Barbara Lewis at [email protected] for more information. Editorial responsibilities may include:
- Reviewing submissions
- Working with authors to strengthen their pieces
- Helping identify themes for future editions
- Assisting with copyediting and publication
- Promoting the newsletter throughout the Drexel community
Students may volunteer for a single edition or continue serving on the editorial team throughout the academic year, depending on their interest and availability. Faculty and professional staff are also encouraged to support the newsletter by sharing this information with students.
