The College of Medicine hosted Faculty Professional Development Day on June 18, 2026, with the theme of “Leading Together: Intergenerational Collaboration in Academic Medicine.” The event convened faculty across all career stages to explore how intergenerational learning and collaboration can strengthen academic medicine.
This year’s program emphasized the power of cross-generational exchange to enhance teaching, scholarship, leadership and career fulfillment. The agenda began with a plenary session on “Intergenerational Learning and Belonging in Academic Medicine.”
Concurrent workshops followed, with presentations geared toward early-career faculty, mid-career and senior faculty, and senior leadership. The early-career workshop was on the topic of building identity, independence and networks through intergenerational mentorship. The mid-career and senior presentation focused on sustaining impact, leadership and engagement through cross-generational partnership. The workshop for senior leaders addressed the topics of legacy-building, leading in times of uncertainty and cultivating intergenerational culture.
Faculty Professional Development Day concluded with the presentation of the 2026 Faculty Awards. The awards honor faculty excellence in the categories of research and scholarship, education, patient care, community outreach, mentoring and leadership, and inclusion impact. In addition, Tina Callaghan, administrative manager, Dean’s Office, and Michele Kutzler, PhD, associate dean for faculty, received special awards for leadership and institutional impact.
